چکیده

Large pilot scale bioremediation approaches were implemented for the treatments of oily sludge (OS) characterised by alkaline pH (pH > 9), high concentration metals (3% dry weight) and total petroleum hydrocarbons content (TPH) rangingbetween 22,000 67,300 mg kg ?1 from a Tunisian refinery. The included bioaugmentation biostimulation with autochthonous isolated bacterial strains consortia. Chemical, microbial, ecotoxicological analyses performed over period 180 days incubation. favoured development Proteobacteria, Firmicutes Bacteroidetes following an ecological succession specialist groups, first associated to hydrocarbon degradation (e.g. Marinobacter Alcanivorax) that resulted in greater extent TPH-degradation (up 80%), selection metal resistant bacteria including Hyphomonas, Phaeobacter, Desulfuromusa. best performances obtained when combined. Over 90% TPH initial was degraded days, which accompanied 3-fold reduction ecotoxicity. Our study demonstrates efficacy large highly contaminated sludge, providing evidence management microbial communities is paramount importance success process.

Bioremediation of Petroleum Sludge

Bioremediation, or the use of micro-organisms to decontaminate soil or groundwater, is being increasingly seen as an effective, environmentfriendly treatment for oilcontaminated sites. Many reports indicated that, large quantities of organic and inorganic compounds are released into the environments every year as results of human activities causing serious environmental problems. Among those pr...

Biostimulation of Indigenous Microbial Community for Bioremediation of Petroleum Refinery Sludge

Nutrient deficiency severely impairs the catabolic activity of indigenous microorganisms in hydrocarbon rich environments (HREs) and limits the rate of intrinsic bioremediation. The present study aimed to characterize the microbial community in refinery waste and evaluate the scope for biostimulation based in situ bioremediation. Samples recovered from the wastewater lagoon of Guwahati refinery...

The effects of Fenton process on the removal of petroleum hydrocarbons from oily sludge in Shiraz oil refinery, Iran

BACKGROUND Due to the high concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) in oily sludge and their environmental hazards, the concern regarding their effects on health and the environment has increased. The main objective of this research was focused on evaluating the feasibility of using Fenton process in removing TPH in oily sludge from Shiraz oil refinery, Southern Iran. RESULTS To d...

Bioremediation of oily sludge-contaminated soil by stimulating indigenous microbes.

In situ bioremediation of oily sludge-contaminated soil by biostimulation of indigenous microbes through adding manure was conducted at the Shengli oilfield in northern China. After bioremediation for 360 days, total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) content was reduced by 58.2% in the treated plots compared with only 15.6% in the control plot. Moreover, bioremediation significantly improved the phys...

Bioremediation of Petroleum Refinery Wastewater Effluent via Augmented Native Microbes

In Nigeria, like other developing countries, industries discharge their wastewater without effective treatment due to the high cost of existing treatment technologies. Wastewater containing petroleum hydrocarbon is highly toxic and pose a great danger to the nearby communities. Therefore, there is a need for a more robust and cost effective treatment technology. In this research, a study was ca...
